Current Initiatives

We have a firm belief in the profound impact of the written word, and we consider ourselves fortunate to witness its remarkable influence firsthand. The power of words holds an unparalleled ability to shape and transform society.

At its core, producing a book is an act of generosity—an endeavor to establish human connections. Primarily, publishing revolves around linking individuals. We take pride in our role within the worldwide community of readers and writers, actively contributing to literacy initiatives and similar causes aimed at nurturing positive relationships and enhancing the world.

Central to our industry lies a fundamental aspiration: the dissemination of ideas. Whether through ancient hands etching cuneiform on clay tablets or modern bloggers crafting digital content, authors have consistently been propelled by a unified purpose—the safeguarding and propagation of cherished narratives, diverse perspectives, and distinct voices.

Listed below are some of our ongoing initiatives, but we’re continuously seeking fresh avenues to contribute to our community. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to engage PP in supporting a cause close to your heart.

Bettirose and Make-A-Wish

We’re incredibly excited to partner with Make-A-Wish® Metro New York and Bettirose Epstein, a cancer survivor, in the creation and publication of her YA fantasy novel. Drawing inspiration from Bettirose’s courageous journey battling cancer, the story, characters, themes, and enchanting setting within the book all stem from her real-life experiences.

Diagnosed with leukemia at just 13, Bettirose became eligible for a Wish through Make-A-Wish. With her dream of becoming a published author, Make-A-Wish approached PP for assistance in early 2019. Without hesitation, we embraced the opportunity, overseeing the entire process completely cost-free for Bettirose and Make-A-Wish. Despite navigating the hurdles of recovery, schoolwork, friendships, and now contending with COVID-19, Bettirose’s aspiration to become a published author is on the brink of fulfillment.

Bettirose has been in close collaboration with acclaimed ghostwriter Julia Watts, alongside our team of editors and publishing consultants. As we guide Bettirose through the intricacies of crafting her book, we’re also teaming up with top-tier book marketers, PR agents, and literary experts to guarantee the success of her forthcoming book.

Call for Manuscripts: Underrepresented Voices

Like many industries, publishing has often benefited from, and regrettably exploited, marginalized groups within our society. Numerous vibrant voices have been overlooked, sidelined, or silenced by our industry. At Penguin Publisher, we aim to play a role in rectifying this injustice in any way we can.

In line with this commitment, we are actively encouraging and presently open to receiving manuscript submissions from marginalized voices, with a particular focus on people of color. Both fiction and nonfiction manuscripts are welcome, provided the subject matter directly or indirectly engages with topics such as race, equality, social justice, representation, economic disparities, and other themes that contribute to discussions around equality.

Each submission will undergo thorough review by our team, and the selection process will prioritize the work’s artistic merit and its potential to inspire meaningful change.

The selected manuscript will be provided with a comprehensive suite of pro bono services, including:

  • EDITING: Thorough manuscript review and analysis by one of our Executive Editors
  • REVISIONS: Multiple rounds of revisions and in-depth review
  • PITCH MATERIALS: Crafting and refining query letters and pitch materials
  • SECURING A PUBLISHING DEAL: Utilizing our network to secure a traditional publishing deal, without agent commissions involved

Reach Out and Read

We were delighted to donate 250 books to this incredible group. Reach Out and Read is a nonprofit organization focused on helping families develop daily reading routines and engage in other language-rich activities. Their pediatric teams integrate reading into pediatric practices and provide parents with the tools and knowledge needed to encourage these habits. When incorporated into a daily routine, reading aloud promotes healthy brain development, furthers language acquisition, and helps families build meaningful bonds.
