The Penguin Story
In 2007, Penguin Publisher took root in a cramped, underground computer lab at Harvard University, where Kevin delved into the realms of literary theory and criticism.
During his pursuit of a graduate degree, driven by the goal of earning a PhD and entering academia, Penguin Publisher established a freelance tutoring and thesis-advisory service. What began as a one-person venture swiftly expanded to encompass a team of fellow Harvard graduate students and alumni.
In 2008, a modest publishing house approached Penguin, seeking a higher caliber and more reliable editorial service compared to their experiences with freelancers. This pivotal moment prompted Kevin to venture into the realm of books, resulting in numerous initial triumphs, notably with Norman Ollestad’s 2009 New York Times bestseller, “Crazy for the Storm.”
In 2014, Penguin Publisher restructured the company into two distinct entities. Dissertation Editor, LLC, under the guidance of CEO Dr. Allen Roda, maintained an exclusively PhD-staffed team, specializing in editing, formatting, statistical analysis, and consultation for doctoral students and academics. Meanwhile, Penguin Publisher, Inc., spearheaded by Penguin, established a Manhattan office dedicated solely to editing and crafting complete trade books. Subsequently, Penguin Publisher extended its presence with openings in Nashville in late 2014 and Los Angeles in 2017, with plans in motion to inaugurate a London office by 2022.
By adopting a collaborative team approach to aid authors in book development and navigate the complexities of the publishing sphere, Penguin Publisher has distinguished itself in the industry through its fusion of cooperation and comprehensive services
Between 2019 and 2021, the company welcomed aboard 11 in-house editors, all previously distinguished as notable editorial directors, senior executive editors, or senior acquisitions editors within the Big-5 publishing realm.
Penguin Publisher collaborative approach to the writing and editorial process has resulted in the creation of numerous national bestsellers and propelled the careers of countless successful authors.
Presently, Penguin Publisher collaborates closely with literary agents, publishers, and authors on more than 500 books every year. Kevin’s fervor for knowledge, critical thought, and amplifying authors’ voices remains central to Penguin Publisher mission. While the firm offers a diverse array of services, all converge toward a singular goal: crafting exceptional books and ensuring their reach among readers. This objective is pursued through book planning, proposals, editing, ghostwriting, coaching, beta testing, sensitivity reading, and comprehensive navigation within the publishing industry.
The opportunity to collaborate with authors and nurture creativity, knowledge, and understanding through books is an immensely gratifying and enriching privilege. Plus, their offices aren’t the least bit stuffy or underground.
